Yellowstone National Park Without a Car

Want to see Yellowstone but don’t want to drive? I got you—I don’t like driving either! There’s so much more fun in just watching the world around you.

Luckily, there’s a solution—Yellowstone Day tours!

During my first visit to Wyoming, I didn’t have a car or even a driver’s license. I was 21 and came to Wyoming as a Work and Travel student. I worked at the famous Buffalo Bill’s Irma Hotel, and the owner, John Darby, organized a trip for all of us students to Yellowstone. It was an amazing experience, and I completely fell in love with the park—and the West in general.

We left early in the morning and visited all the must-see sites with a local guide. By the way, if you want to explore Yellowstone at your own pace, check out my website, where you can download a free "Must-See in Yellowstone" PDF guide!

I’m not going to lie—seeing Yellowstone in one day is a long and exhausting journey, but it’s so much easier when you don’t have to drive. In Cody, we have amazing local tour companies with great reviews that will gladly take you on a one-day or even a two-day trip.

For a one-day tour, prices vary from $250 to $900 per person. Even the most affordable options usually cover all the must-see attractions, most of which are in the Lower Loop. That’s why Cody and the East Entrance are the perfect and most scenic way to explore them.

$250-$300 per person is a reasonable price for a first-time visit. It makes even more sense for solo travelers. For families, it might get a little pricey, but if you have four or more people in your group, I recommend calling the tour company to ask about group discounts. It never hurts to ask!

There are also multi-day tours, but personally, I’m not a fan—especially if they’re not private. You could end up stuck on a bus with people you don’t particularly like and it might spoil this amazing, once-in-a-lifetime adventure.

If you have multiple days in the park and even minimal driving experience, I’d recommend driving yourself.

And if the only thing stopping you is the time and effort it takes to plan—I’ve got the perfect solution for you!
I’ve created ready-to-go itineraries for solo travelers, couples, and budget travelers, available on my website https://www.wyldreset.com/yellowstone

Just download one, and you’ll have a route, dining, and hotel recommendations, and tons of activities to choose from.

So, whether you join a tour or follow one of my itineraries, Yellowstone is waiting for you!
